On this 9 Day Tanzania African big five safari, we experience breathtaking wildlife in the midst of some of the most diverse landscapes; lions on trees, elephants among the acacias and a huge variety of animals inside a collapsed volcano home to the endangered black Rhino.
Detailed Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport and Transfer to ARUSHA
upon arrival and after clearance with the Customs Authorities you will be met by your representative and we drive to Arusha, upon arrival we check inn at the hotel freshen up (depending on the time of the arrival and day optional tours maybe done or it would be a leisure at the hotel). Choose to relax and get ready for 9 Day Tanzania African big five safari. Overnight at Arusha Planet Hotel
Day 2: ARUSHA –TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
With a lazy breakfast at the hotel then with picnic lunches we depart for Tarangire National Park. The Park is named after the Tarangire River which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the only source of water for wildlife in the region during the dry season. In places, the vegetation is quite dense, including elephant grass, acacia woodlands. Tarangire National Park has some of the highest population density of elephants as compared to anywhere in Tanzania, and its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and distinctive location to visit. These animals are closely followed by a range of predators, including lions and leopards. There are more breeding species of birds found in Tarangire National Park than anywhere else on the planet. Tarangire is the best place to see these gentle giants in their natural habitat – from the adorable calves all the way up to the intimidating bulls. After Lunch drive to the Ngorongoro highlands. Day 3: Transfer to Lake Manyara and Later to Lake Eyasi
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park. This is a relatively small but diverse park, 120km west of Arusha. The park’s namesake is a shallow, salt lake. It covers a large area of the park, flooding and drying with the seasons and is home to thousands of flamingos and over 500 other bird species. On your exploration of the park you will see monkeys, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains, but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs.
After lunch and extensive game drive you will drive to your accommodation for dinner and overnight at Lake Eyasi safari lodge
Day 4: Explore Lake Eyasi – Home of Flamingoes & The Hadzabe Bushmen
Continue with your 9 Day Tanzania African big five safari to Lake Eyasi. This is a seasonal shallow endothecia salt lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley at the base of the Serengeti Plateau. Just south of the Serengeti National Park and immediately southwest of the Ngorongoro Crater in the Crater Highlands of Tanzania. The lake is elongated, orientated southwest to northeast, and lies in the Eyasi-Wembere branch of the Great Rift Valley.
The Hadzabe Bushmen live in this region, as do the Datoga and Mbulu tribes. A visit with the Bushmen is worthwhile and they will graciously show you where and how they live and hunt. They subsist entirely off the bush and by bow hunting. Everything they use is made from local materials, including their bows which are strung with giraffe tendon and their arrows which are coated in lethal poison. Their language resembles that of Kalahari Bushmen tribe (who were featured in the 1980 film ‘The Gods Must Be Crazy’) with clicking noises used. The Datoga and Mbulu people are pastoralists, like the Maasai people. After your exploration, you will drive back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay at Lake Eyasi safari lodge
Day 5: Big Five Experience in Serengeti plains
After breakfast, you will continue towards the fertile highlands where wheat and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Along the way we’ll pass through the mist-shrouded rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you might be lucky enough to see baboons, or even leopards and elephants in the dense undergrowth. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will be able to see the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater before traveling onwards to the Serengeti National Park, which you will reach by midday. The Serengeti National Park is the largest park in Tanzania with diverse landscapes and habitats, such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountains. After an extensive game drive, you will drive to your accommodation where you will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay. Dinner and overnight at Into Wild Africa tented camp
Day 6: Living with predators of Serengeti (Central – Seronera) – Endless Plains
You will spend the whole day exploring the park, its animals and incredible landscapes. The Serengeti is the habitat for an abundance of wildlife, such as impalas, buffalo, crocodiles and hippos, but is more well-known for its great migrating herds of zebras and wildebeest. The animals’ trek is determined by the rainfall and varies from year to year. Apart from the migrating herds, you may see predators, such as leopards, cheetahs and lions. After your exploration at the park, you will drive back to your accommodation for Dinner and overnight at Into Wild Africa tented camp
Day 7: Explore Serengeti and Transfer to Ngorongoro Highlands
Its another great day under the Skies of Africa morning breakfast we load up and today we bid fare well to the central circuit as drive through before we depart to Ngorongoro crater for an overnight. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge
Day 8: Ngorongoro Crate Rim – Tanzania’s crown jewel
Bird calls means morning is here another day in Africa, have breakfast then with our picnic lunch we depart for Ngorongoro crater rim.
When you first see Ngorongoro Crater, it looks like a forgotten world. Concealed by the steep volcanic walls is a pristine wilderness including sweeping savannah, pockets of acacia woodland and glistening lakes and swamps. The Crater was created when a large volcano exploded and collapsed in on itself two to three million years ago. It is famous for both its geological delights and for being a natural reserve which is home to some of the densest large mammal populations in the whole of the African continent. The drive down the into the Crater is an adventure in itself and when you reach the Crater floor, you quickly find yourself amongst large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and more than 500 bird species. The Crater provides you with the best chance of seeing the endangered black rhino, which can sometimes be spotted in the open grasslands. After Lunch and an extensive game drive inside the crater, we head for our comfort partner lodges in Karatu for dinner and overnight. Dinner and overnight at Eileen’s Trees Inn. FB
Day 9: Transfer from Karatu – ARUSHA:
With Breakfast at leisure, You will be picked at your accommodation at the time of your choice where you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport which marks the end of your epic magic of Tanzania during the 9 Day Tanzania African big five safari.
